Lest anybody forget the other part of tonight's story, there were actually two primaries that occurred. You might have heard about them a few days ago (maybe as recently as Sunday, or yesterday). But they certainly got blown off by most of the media tonight (CNN being the exception). I guess in the rush to crown Barack Obama as the Democratic Party nominee (see my earlier post), superdelegates forgot their obligation to let the voters speak and the media forgot (oh, hell, why don't we just say it?) abandoned journalistic integrity in favor of "thrills".
Thus, I give you primary results:
Hillary won South Dakota by 12 10 points. Exit polls tell the story...again:
Women - (C) 57%; (O) 43%
Men - (C) 51%; (O) 49%
AGE:
18-29 (C) 33%; (0) 67%
30-44 (C) 50%; (O) 50%
45-59 (C) 53%; (O) 47%
60+ (C) 66%; (O) 34%
< $50,000 (C) 58%; (O) 42%
> $50,000 (C) 51%; (O) 49%
No College (C) 60%; (O) 40%
College Grad. (C) 46%; (O) 54%
Democrat (C) 56%; (O) 44%
Independent/Something Else (C) 50%; (O) 50%
By the way, South Dakota was a closed primary - meaning that only Democrats could vote. Any chance this might have something to do with Hillary's win? Hmmmm?
Obama won Montana 56% to 41%. Montana was an OPEN primary - meaning Republicans, Independents and god-knows-what-other-politically-affiliated could vote. Any chance this might have something to do with Barack's win? Hmmmm? Yes, yes, yes, there are exit polls. But I'm not going to lay them out. If you're interested, you can read them here.
Clinton Stands Up For All Americans...again
Gay Pride Month Statement apparently lost misplaced overlooked ignored by media:
As we begin Gay Pride Month, I join the LGBT community in
celebrating an historic year in which our country continues
to make progress towards the fair and equal treatment of
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. Still, we
have so much work to do. I look forward to working with the
LGBT community to make sure that all Americans in committed
relationships have equal benefits and that nothing stands in
the way of loving couples who want to adopt children in
need. We need to expand our federal hate crimes legislation
and pass a fully-inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination
Act. And finally, we need to put an end to the failed policy
of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Courage, honor, patriotism and
sacrifice - the traits that define our men and women in
uniform - have nothing to do with sexual orientation.
