To paraphrase Larry Johnson's post from yesterday, it's been somewhat painful to read and hear liberal bloggers' outcries over Barack Obama's statements last week to forego public financing and, more importantly, his acceptance of a reworked FISA law, which was passed by the House on Friday.
Frankly, I'm amused to see the level of apoplexy among so-called progressive bloggers over Obama's abandonment of principle, capitulation to politics-as-usual, and political calculation. Many of them are shocked, shocked! to learn that Barack Obama is, after all, just a politician.
There are those who are now so angry at Obama they plan to withhold their vote from him in November. High irony here, of course, as many of these same people have said repeatedly that Hillary Clinton supporters who planned to stay home, vote for John McCain or another candidate in the Fall are being "babies" who need to grow up and "stop whining."
Why are so many four-year-olds and fourteen-year-olds making comments on blogs?
Four-year-olds see their preferred politicians as god-like fathers (or mothers) whose virtuous character will guarantee good judgment. If a judgment looks questionable to you, then it's because you don't know all the facts that mommy and daddy know, or it's because you aren't as wise as them.
Fourteen-year-olds have had their illusions shattered about those devilish politicians so now they perceive the TRUTH -- that mommy and daddy make bad judgments because mommy and daddy are utterly corrupt.
We DO have a very angry group of first-time, younger voters who are at the same time so captivated with and in thrall to Barack the Magnificent that all perspective has been lost about the often dirty, hardball, back-scratching, cloaked, high-stakes game he is part of. It is called politics. There is no other way to explain away the fact that this man is spending millions upon millions of dollars to win election to an office that pays $400,000 a year.
I'll have more in my next post(s).
